Why credits, not cash.
- Cash creates surveillance and risk for the recipient.People without housing or in DV situations are routinely robbed or have their cards monitored by an abuser. A credit redeemable only at a vendor can't be taken from someone at knifepoint.
- Credits route donor intent to actual need.Donors choose a credit type when they give. A laundry credit becomes laundry. A meal credit becomes a meal. We can't redirect funds and donors can see exactly where their gift went.
- Vendors are verified before they can redeem anything.Every business that accepts Guardian Credits passes a verification call and signs a redemption agreement. See Become a vendor.
- Every redemption is auditable. The chain is recorded: donor β fund β recipient β vendor β reconciliation. Sponsors get reports. The public sees aggregate impact on the Transparency page.
How credits stay credits.
Non-transferable. Credits live in one person's wallet. They can't be gifted, traded, or sold to another user.
Time-bound. Meal credits expire at the end of their day; ride credits within the redemption window; gear and laundry credits within a 30-day issue window. No stockpiling, no resale market.
Rotating QR codes. The code on the recipient's screen refreshes every 60 seconds. A screenshot is worthless within a minute. Only the vendor's scan, at the moment of redemption, releases the credit.
Vendor authorization. Each vendor is authorized for specific credit types. A laundromat can't redeem a meal credit. An unauthorized scan is logged and rejected.
